When you first walk into our school, you will notice that various students wear different colored belts and you may wonder why.  Out of respect to our tratitional martial arts heritage, we use colored belts to denote accomplishment and mastery of skills.  As you move forward in your training, you, like thousands of students who have gone before you, will be allowed to wear a colored belt that symbolizes the level of your achievement.

Within a few months of joining Yoo's Martial Arts, you will be invited to your first belt test.  After demonstrating your skill in several of the many basic techniques that you will already have learned, you will be awarded your first rank, the "Yellow Belt" along with a "Certificate of Promotion"

The Exam Procedure

Each exam has a specific number of techniques to learn and skills to achieve. Master Yoo, upon watching your progress, will invite you to the next scheduled testing when he feels that you are ready.  An Exam Request Form must be filled out at least a week before every exam.  In the beginning, you will find that your belt exams are scheduled closer together and are shorter in length.  As you get farther apart and will take longer to complete.  All test are held under the personal direction of Master Sung K. Yoo.

A fee is charged for all exams.  This fee covers the instructors's time the Black Belt Panel of Judges, along with a new belt, a curriculum guide and a "Certificate of Promotion" which is given upon a successful completion of the test .  Extra sessions are available prior to posted dates to ensure your success.  Exam dates are posted at least two weeks prior to the exam date on the bulletin board.
